"The ten songs of Mountain Man make us rediscover Christian Dam's lo-fi essentiality in its purest state, even more driven than the previous ones: essentially there are almost only guitar, voice and very little else, so much so that we think of a parallel project by the Norwegians, apparently engaged in draining the electricity of their old productions for the most part by embracing a semi-acoustic style of intimate spontaneity.

The indie pop references that dotted Hang On here give way (and it's certainly not a defect) to a refined singer-songwriter dimension that brings together the nocturnal delicacy of Elliott Smith and the luminous restlessness of Mark Linkous. Just the opening of Summer Rain Is Falling (two sizzling guitars and voice) and the subsequent Need To Get Away can serve as a link with the previous records. Then, from Stuck On A Mountain onwards, an immersion in a thoughtful stillness away from it all dominates the album, with a series of folk rock pieces of inspired lo-fi fragility that remind me very much of another Norwegian , the late and never quite known St Thomas.
